This course is run over two sessions either on the same day or over two consecutive days. You must attend both sessions to complete the course.

Course details: 

This interactive webinar is delivered over two consecutive sessions, each lasting 2.5 hours. In some cases this is on two consecutive days. Delegates will need to attend both sessions in order to complete the course. Modules one and two will be covered in session one, modules three and four will be covered in session two.

The course will be presented by one of our team of professional and experienced trainers and will include presentation slides, film clips and small group exercises to help delegates learn the content effectively.

The session is delivered at a steady pace for those who are familiar with safeguarding terminology.

Course description: 

This course is for those working across international context[s] with connections/roots in the UK – whether as part of a registered charity, a church that sends teams or even those financially giving to projects in other nations.  

It will help you to understand your safeguarding responsibilities and - through meaningful dialogue - improve safeguarding practice in your contexts. This course is ideal for those who may oversee partnership relationships with organisations overseas, run mission trips to overseas partner projects, or for individuals undertaking mission trips themselves. We will explore the challenges and exciting possibilities of safeguarding in international contexts. 

Session 1 

1. International Safeguarding: The principles 

  • Identify shared safeguarding principles 

  • Identify the recognised ‘at risk’ groups 

  • Understand categories of abuse 

2. Preventative Safeguarding: UK best practice 

  • Understand UK ‘minimum standards’ 

  • Identify essential policy documents 

  • Explore people-focused practices 

Session 2 

3. Contextualised Safeguarding: The project locations 

  •  Understanding local systems 

  • Understanding local challenges 

  • Utilising cultural norms 

4. Intercultural safeguarding: Fusion of cultures 

  • Dialogue with partners aka listening well 

  • Power, inequalities and accountability 

  • Supervision and care 

  • Create an action plan
