This self-paced video training counts for 6 hours of training, with 3 videos and supporting reflective exercises to complete.
The Faith and Safeguarding Project is a training initiative designed to improve understanding and collaboration between statutory services (SS) and faith-based organisations (FBOs) in the UK. It aims to enhance safeguarding practices by increasing professionals’ awareness of faith contexts, beliefs, and governance structures.
It includes:
- Three on-demand panel discussions (45mins - 1 hour each), featuring voices from both SS and FBOs.
- Downloadable additional learning resources
- Reflective exercises to apply learning to practice
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the impact of faith on safeguarding dynamics, including how religious beliefs and practices can both support and complicate safeguarding efforts.
- Differentiate between areas of alignment and divergence between statutory safeguarding frameworks and faith-based approaches.
- Demonstrate increased religious literacy, including respectful terminology, governance structures, and theological perspectives relevant to safeguarding.
- Apply culturally competent safeguarding approaches when working with individuals, families, or communities from diverse faith backgrounds.
- Engage effectively with faith-based organisations (FBOs) by understanding their roles, responsibilities, and potential barriers to collaboration.
- Reflect on personal practice using guided questions and case-based scenarios to identify areas for growth in faith-informed safeguarding.
- Utilise downloadable resources (e.g., quick guides, springboard questions, legal frameworks) to support ongoing learning and professional development.
- Identify key safeguarding structures and roles within six major UK faiths: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Judaism.
