This course is run over two sessions either on the same day or over two consecutive days. You must attend both sessions to complete the course. 

This 4 Nations friendly course provides relevant resources upon booking. It meets Scotland’s Specific Workforce learning standards and covers about 80% of Wales' Group C Requirements (see course documents for details).

Peer Reflection Sessions

Peer reflection is designed to give you an opportunity to apply learning from our Safeguarding Leads course and is not a standalone course - once you have completed the course, you will then be sent a link to book onto a date of your choice.

Course details:

The course will be presented by one of our team of professional and experienced trainers and will include presentation slides, film clips and small group exercises to help delegates learn the content effectively. The session is delivered at a steady pace for those who are familiar with safeguarding terminology.

Course description:

Every organisation working with children and adults at risk of harm should have a clearly identifiable person who takes the lead on safeguarding. This course is designed to equip safeguarding leads (whatever their title) to fulfil their role with clarity and confidence. This practical two-part course will use scenarios, discussion, taught content and interactive exercises to explore all key aspects of this important role. 

The course is 4 Nations friendly - you will be provided with relevant resources when you book onto the course.

The webinar will be divided into five sections: 

Session one: 

  1. Recognise: 
  • Recognise the legal basis and wider context of your role 
  • Recognise the importance of contextual safeguarding 
  • Recognise who we're serving 
  • Recognise evolving forms of harm and abuse 
  • Recognise factors that increase vulnerability and risk 
  • Recognise the parameters of your role 
  1. Respond: 
  • Respond with a victim-survivor centred approach 
  • Respond fairly with an awareness of unconscious bias 
  • Respond well in challenging circumstances 
  • Respond to allegations against a leader 

Session two: 

  1. Record: 
  • Record concerns in a clear and accurate manner  
  • Record new information and updates about existing concerns 
  • Record and store safeguarding information securely 
  • Record with a person-centred approach 
  1. Report: 
  • Report to statutory services  
  • Report to trustees and leaders 
  • 'Report' to family 
  • Report to lists (Barring Service and PVG)  
  • Report to other bodies (Charity Regulators, insurance, partners etc.) 
  1. Review: 
  • Review your support structures and capacity 
  • Review your ongoing awareness (case reviews, legislation and guidance) 
  • Review your processes 
  • Review your organisational culture 
  • Review your victim-survivor centred approach
